MSSLAX is the governing body for girls youth lacrosse in Minnesota.
US Lacrosse Youth Girl's Rule Book
With Minnesota's occasional high heat index, we follow the MSLax policy on safe playing conditions.
MSLax follows the MN High School League’s policy for practices and games. A link to this policy is here (Refer to chart on Page 4, red/South area):
https://www.mshsl.org/sites/default/files/2020-08/mshsl_policyweatherconditionscompetitionpractice.pdf
A distinct difference between this and other policies (including Boys Lacrosse) is the use of the Wet Bulb Globe Temp (WBGT). It is a measure of the heat stress our bodies feel in direct sunlight. Whereas heat index uses temperature and relative humidity, the WBGT uses temperature, humidity, wind speed, cloud cover, effect of shade and sun angle for a more accurate heat stress risk.
This is a link for monitoring live WBGT results by location. It’s quite confusing trying to calculate on your own! The factors change quickly, so decisions could be last minute; your coach or Girls Director will update all teams as soon as we are notified of changes or modifications.

Extra actions to take: On days with moderate or high WBGT Risk, make sure your player gets plenty of water, and wears lightweight, light-colored clothing (for practice) that reflects heat and sunlight. As spectators, make use of the shade, avoid direct sun exposure, drink lots of water, and for everyone - use sunscreen!
